My Tender Heart Prayer Book {Review & Giveaway}
“Bless the children of the world, the ones I do not know who, like me, need love every day and space to learn and grow.” (excerpt from the “Children of the World Prayer” in My Tender Heart Prayer book). Is this a prayer you’d like to teach children? If so, consider this book review (and giveaway!) of My Tender Heart Bible.
The Author
You may have heard of Laura Sassi. I’ve reviewed several of her books on my blog. The most recent one was the board book, The Tender Heart Bible. Laura Sassi has delighted children with books in various genres. One of my favorite fiction books she wrote is Diva Delores and the Opera House Mouse. Such a fun and insightful book!
Laura had a successful teaching career before authoring multiple books for children. She’s been a homeschool mom, children’s ministry director, museum interpreter, and more. She enjoys sharing messages of kindness, comfort, and hope. You can learn more about her at LauraSassiTales.com.
My Tender Heart Prayer Book
This 26-page board book contains 23 prayers for preschoolers. Underneath the title of each prayer is a scripture reference for further reading. A “Heart Moment” with a suggested extra activity is at the end of each prayer.
Some of the heart moments are hands-on activities. Others suggest children compose their own prayer. Occasionally, there are heart moments that include both. In the “Children of the World Prayer,” the Heart Moment says: “Find a map, close your eyes, and pick a spot with your finger. Pray for the children who live near that place.”
I like how Sassi uses different names for the triune God. She references Him most often as Lord, but also as God, You, Helper, Jesus, Your Presence, and Shepherd.
Prayers for All Occasions
In addition to the Children of the World Prayer, Sassi also included:
Wake Up Prayer
Getting Dressed Prayer

In the Car Prayer

Friendship Prayer
Sharing Prayer
Feeling Sad Prayer
Quiet Time Prayer

Prayer for Those Who Are Hurting
Going on an Errand Prayer
Sports Prayer
Thank You for Family
Dinnertime Prayer

As you can see, Laura Sassi has got your little ones covered with rhyming prayers for almost every occasion.
Recommendation & Giveaway
Children will undoubtedly connect with the moments mentioned in this book. The prayers are easy to remember, but they’re not over-simplified.
Plus, children will enjoy the colorful illustrations by Sandra Eide. It’s always a delight to see people of all skin colors, ages, and abilities represented in books.
I recommend this board book for ages five and under. It would be a sweet gift for baby showers and birthdays or tucked inside an Easter basket.
The publisher, Paraclete Press, wishes to donate one copy of this book to one of you dear readers (U.S. residents only). Thank you, Paraclete!

J.D. Wininger
Have enjoyed several of Ms. Laura’s books. With no “littles” of our own, they all end up at our church library. It’s a fun way to get to read them over and over again to our “pseudo-grands”.

Mr. J.D., all of those church “grandkids” are blessed to have you and Mrs. Wininger in their lives!
