What she has to say about Little Ewe:

“I wrote Little Ewe as a fun way to introduce children to the idea of God as our loving Shepherd through the eyes of one fictional little lamb. It’s such a fitting image, as He does indeed take tender care of us, His flock. It’s also an image that even a child can grasp, for who doesn’t love to snuggle up with a sweet lamb stuffy?”

About Little Ewe

Little Ewe is a children’s picture book. It’s about an adventurous little lamb who becomes preoccupied with the world around him.

Not only is this book a rhyming book, but it is a counting book as well. As Little Ewe strays from the flock, she “bounces on five floating logs and splashes with six croaking frogs.” The story progresses from one shepherd to twelve stars.

Even when the shepherd whistles for the sheep, Little Ewe is too busy observing the other animals to heed his call. Everything is delightful to Little Ewe until the day turns dark. She realizes she’s lost her way.

Similar to the story of the lost sheep in the Bible, the shepherd leaves his ninety-nine sheep to search for Little Ewe. And of course, there is a happy reunion. When the counting is done, the story ends nicely with one Little Ewe safely back in the arms of his loving Shepherd.

Colorful and engaging illustrations by Tommy Doyle enrich the story. Children will enjoy searching for and counting the items mentioned in the story.

Side Notes

As a side note, Laura Sassi has kindly accepted an invitation to guest blog for me later this month. Stay tuned for that—you’ll not want to miss her encouraging words.

Also to note! Laura Sassi will be conducting a full-day Master Class, How to Write a Picture Book, with the non-profit, Christian writers’ organization, Write2Ignite on April 24, 2021. Even though Sassi lives in New Jersey, you don’t have to go there to attend the class. Fortunately, it’s a virtual event and Sassi will Zoom to wherever we are that day. I hope you’ll join us!
