{Review} Fix-Her-Upper: Reclaim Your Happy Space
Today’s post is a review of Fix-Her-Upper: Reclaim Your Happy Space.
“Honey, you just need to go to your happy place.”
We’ve heard that before, but exactly where is it? And how long can we stay there before the next disturbance bursts forth?
Perhaps this week’s book review of FIX-HER-UPPER: Reclaim Your Happy Space will help answer those questions.
*****
Maybe you’ve recently received news which ignited your immediate search of a happiness shelter.
As co-author, Beth Duewel mentions in chapter three, this might be news of a job change, a financial change, or a health change.
Anything that feels like it’s “messin’ with [your] happy.”
FIX-HER-UPPER: Reclaim Your Happy Space, written by Duewel and Rhonda Rhea, offers encouragement as well as reminders of how to hang on to the joy.
The title’s play on words may draw someone in, who is stressed out, and searching for her happy place. This book will point her in the right direction. The reader will soon discover that the word “happy” as it relates to the word “joy.”
Duewel and Rhea take turns sharing personal stories to help illustrate the scriptural truths about God’s gift of joy. Some are precious-sweet stories that made me smile, like Duewel’s story about her Dad with Alzheimer’s using his oxygen mask as a telephone.
Other stories are downright hilarious, like Rhea’s rant about her dislike of cleaning, and how it runs in the family.
“. . . but I do remember having to say to a teen at least once, ‘Son. You have to clean your room. We’re out of spoons.’”
Rhonda Rhea, Fix-Her-Upper: Reclaim Your Happy Space
Wow. I can relate. Over half of the forks at my house are AWOL.
If the humor in Reclaim Your Happy Space doesn’t cheer you, the wisdom will.
“Using God’s joy as an instrument to live life is simpler than we think. We simply hand it back over. We trust God to do and fix and love like He says He will. Despite popular opinion, joy is not about us. Rejoicing happens outside of ourselves. For me, that’s really good news.”
Beth Duewel, Fix-Her-Upper: Reclaim Your Happy Space
More good news comes through the scripture referenced throughout the book, usually from the NIV Bible.
Each chapter ends with a “Bringing It Home” section with questions and thoughts to consider putting into action.
I joyfully recommend FIX-HER-UPPER: Reclaim Your Happy Space. It would make a great gift for a friend in need of encouragement.

I was provided an advanced reader’s segment by the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.

Oh yes, I can relate to those little snippets of the stories – about hating cleaning, and about making a teen clean their room because we’re out of clean dishes! Looks like a fun but helpful book!

Hi, Dawn. I’m glad you stopped by today. Yes, it’s always good if we can turn our focus to joy. When we are struggling with that, it’s books like this that are there to cheer us on and point us in the right direction. 🙂
